Iron Workers Local 489 History

The Greater Scranton Area was built on the iron and steel industries and the Ironworkers Local Union No. 489 continues that tradition. First chartered in 1900, Local 489 encompasses 12 counties throughout eastern Pennsylvania – Lackawanna, Luzerne, parts of Monroe, Wayne, Pike, Tioga, Bradford, Columbia, Susquehanna, Wyoming, and portions of Carbon and Sullivan Counties.

We are more than 460-members strong, and are proud to have a new union hall to call home. Dedicated in March 2005, our new hall is a central location for training, meetings, and office space.
